Wesley Glen Walsh, 83, Rolette, N.D., died on Oct. 5, 2012, at the Rolette Community Care Center in Rolette.

Wesley was born Jan. 14, 1929, to Howard and Edna (Johnson) Walsh in Rolette, N.D. He was raised on a farm near Mylo, N.D. He graduated from Rolette High School in 1946. He attended North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo for a short time before he graduated from a telegraphy school in Minneapolis in 1948. While there he worked at Dayton's Department Store.

He returned to Mylo and started farming on the family farm east of Mylo until he married Shirley Ann Holmly on Oct. 20, 1951, at Ox Creek Lutheran Church, rural Rolette. They farmed together for 45 years in Island Lake Township, Rolette County, until they retired in 1993. They moved to Rolette in 1996.

He was an early conservationist in his operation of beef cattle, dairy cattle and small grains. He was an avid learner with books and felt that learning never stopped. He served his community by his service on the Rolette County ASCS Board and the Mylo School Board. He was a past member of the Mylo Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, where he served on the church council and was always available to usher at services.

He enjoyed many things in his life including, wood and metal working, carpentry work, mechanical work, gardening, and going to livestock and auction sales. He also played the guitar, enjoyed square dancing, and found joy in reading books to his final days. He will be remembered for his stories and jokes that he shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought great joy and put a smile on his face.

He is survived by: his wife, Shirley; and his children, Linda and her husband, Clayton Parrill, Bottineau; Evelyn and her husband, Jack Brennan, West Fargo; and Dennis and his wife, Kathy Walsh, of Harvey. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Katie (Tyrell) Lauckner, Bismarck; Andrea (Jeff) Paulson, Fargo; Ross Brennan and special friend Diana Mack, West Fargo; David Parrrill and his fiancee, Kelsey Nonast, of Edmond, Okla.; Steven (Laura) Brennan, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; Brian (Aundrea) Walsh, Woodbury, Minn.; Aaron (Jayme) Walsh, of Harvey, and Kevin Walsh and special friend, Mindy Johnson, Fargo. He also leaves eight great-grandchildren: Levi, Braxton, Declan, and Aubrey Lauckner and Lucas, Alex, Lisa, and Amelia Paulson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant grandsons, Mark and Matthew Brennan, on Oct. 29, 1978; and two brothers, Wayne, in 1994, and Ronald, in 1996.

Funeral services: Will be held at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at 2 p.m. The Rev. John K. Hesford will officiate.

LaVonne Ivey will be the organist. The grandchildren and a nephew, Curtis Walsh, and friend, Wayne Stevenson, will serve as casketbearers.

Burial: Will be in Ox Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Rolette.

Visitation: Will be today, Oct. 7, at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
