LaVon Elaine (Dissette Schoenborn) Hagboe, formerly a resident of the Willow City and Souris areas, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Bendictine Living Center in Garrison.
LaVon was born March 18, 1930, in Rolette County to William E. and Julia (Wright) Dissette. She attended a rural country school and later completed her high school education at Willow City. On Dec. 10, 1947, she married Arthur Schoenborn. To this union, two children were born, Dana Rae and Daniel Lynn. The marriage later ended in divorce.
LaVon held many jobs besides being a mom and homemaker. She cooked for a county road crew in the summer months for many years. She also cooked in a local restaurant and worked for a meat locker plant in Willow City.
LaVon worked for the Willow City Public School as a bus driver for many years and also as a nurse's aide at St. Andrew's Hospital in Bottineau, a job she loved very much. She enjoyed helping and caring for other people.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and spoke of them often.
On Nov. 4, 1976, she married Howard "Gordon" Hagboe of Souris, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bottineau, of which she was a member. They lived on the Hagboe family farm until 2001, but due to health issues, they decided to retire and move to Minot. LaVon loved living on the farm and she was a country girl at heart.
On Dec. 31, 2009, LaVon and her husband, Gordon, moved to Brentmoor Assisted Living in Minot. In August 2010, she became a resident of the Alzheimer's Unit at Trinity Homes in Minot. In December 2010 she moved to the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, where she received loving care from the staff and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Julia Dissette; her husband, Gordon, who died Sept. 23, 2012; brothers, Eugene, Leroy and Glen; and one sister, Delphine.
LaVon is survived by: her daughter, Dana (Edward A.) Johnson, of Towner, her son, Daniel (Susan) Schoenborn, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; grandchildren, Ryan (Lynette) Johnson, of Bismarck, Brett (Melissa) Johnson. of Hays, Kan., Jessica (Shawn) Gummoe, of Laurelville, Ohio, Lucas (Tiffany) Schoenborn, of Okinawa, Japan, Hannah Schoenborn, of Grand Forks, and Peter Schoenborn, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Payton and Kinley Johnson, of Bismarck, Blayden Johnson, of Hays, Kan.; Paden, Hunter, Rileigh and Kyler, of Laurelville, Ohio.
LaVon was a lifetime member of the Lyle B. Rich American Legion Auxiliary Post 112 of Willow City and also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.
There will be a private family service and interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.
