MHS golf finishes seventh at state

MANDAN - The Minot High School golf team shot a two-round 764 and placed seventh overall at the state tournament at Prairie West Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Minot senior Haili Duchscherer shot a season-low 82 on Tuesday to finish 11th overall with a team-best 168.

"I was very happy with the team's performance," Minot coach Cody Mueller said. "Haili stepped up and played her best round on a course that we've struggled with in the past."

Duchscherer, Eighth-grader Paige Argent (197), eighth-grader MaKenzy Arlien (198) and sophomore McKinley Bender (201) made up Minot's team score.

Fargo Davies won the tournament with a 650, 24 shots ahead of second-place Bismarck Century.

Fargo North's Annie Twells defeated Dickinson's Rachel Jahner on the third playoff hole to win the individual title.

Bishop Ryan tops Glenburn

GLENBURN - The Bishop Ryan volleyball team beat Glenburn 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 20-25, 25-14) in a District 12 matchup Tuesday night.

Sophomore middle hitter Hannah Stewart led the Lions (12-9 overall, 3-3 district) with 16 kills and Ryan's setters - juniors Maddie Lipp and Anika Rovig - combined for 40 assists.

Ryan coach Patty Luetzen said when Glenburn elected to block Stewart cross-court, she routinely found space down the line.

"That's probably one of Hannah's best hitting days by far," Luetzen said.

Glenburn was led by Payton Schumann (eight kills) and Katie Dufner (14 assists).

Ryan hosts Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Century blanks Minot High

BISMARCK - Bismarck Century defeated the Minot High School volleyball team 3-0 on Tuesday.

MHS coach Ellen Jebens was encouraged by her team's play in the second game, when the Majettes (10-12 overall, 2-7 West Region) lost 25-23. The Patriots, who have only one region loss, won both the first and third games 25-14.

"All night, I thought we played pretty tough defensively," Jebens said. "We struggled a little bit to block but we got a lot of digs. We just struggled to put it all together."

Senior Morgan Milbrath led MHS with five kills and classmate Alex Bolinske added four. Senior libero Jessie Kongelf and sophomore outside hitter Sophie Bengson each had eight digs.

The Majettes play Friday and Saturday at the Scheel's Invite in Fargo.
