John Pettersen, of Grand Prairie, Alberta, bought a Sami outfit in Norway for his daughter 53 years ago.
On Friday, 5-year-old Lila Olson, of Minot, modeled the outfit in the Norwegian Bunads and Folk Costume Program at Norsk Hstfest.
This is the first year the Sami outfit has been shown at Hstfest, Pettersen said.

The fur in the outfit is goat kid and the shoes are reindeer, he said.
Pettersen, who has been coming to Minot for Hstfest since 1991, said he visited with Martha Elliott, of Minot, about showing the outfit at Hstfest. Arrangements were made for Lila to wear it in the folk costume event this year.
Pettersen was born and raised in Norway. He came to Alberta in 1953. Pettersen said he bought the outfit for his daughter in 1959 when returning to Norway to live for a year. His daughter, Gina May Jones, lives in the Grand Prairie area.
