Richard H. Anderson, 88, Minot, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in his home.

Richard Harold Anderson was born Dec. 21, 1923, a son of Harold and Geneva (Forbragd) Anderson, in Des Lacs. He was raised and educated in Des Lacs, where he graduated from high school in 1942.

On June 18, 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. He proudly served in the South Pacific, working harbors and building docks. Following his honorable discharge on May 29, 1946, he returned to Des Lacs, where he had several different jobs, some included working in a bakery and sheep farming in Montana.

Richard was united in marriage to Jean White in 1947. They moved to Williston, where he worked for the railroad. He also worked several other odd jobs while he lived there. Their daughter, Rita, was born while they lived in Williston. In 1950 the family moved to Ray, where Richard managed Westland Oil until 1957. They moved to Missoula, Mont., where he owned and operated a sawmill for two years. They moved to Minot, where he started delivering trucks for Red Ball for a short time and then spent the next 18 years with North American Van Lines. Jean passed away on May 11, 1969.

Richard married Marjorie (Nelson) Anderson on May 10, 1971. They moved to Williston, where he owned and operated Dick's Power Service until March of 1977, when he sold the station. He purchased SL Hotel which he used for care of the handicapped elderly, and the last 10 years he had only veterans. He sold the hotel in 1997 and moved to Garrison to retire and spend all the time he could fishing, hunting and doing woodwork. He also enjoyed square and round dancing for over 20 years, and attended many state conventions.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Minot Eagles Aerie. He was a former member of the Williston American Legion and Williston State Line Square Dance Club.

Richard is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Marjorie, Minot; daughter, Rita (Gilbert) Christianson, Glenburn; stepchildren, Jan (Dave) Lishman, Texarkana, Ark., Jim (Beth) Anderson, Silverdale, Wash., Jack (Karen) Anderson, Burlington, Jerry Anderson, Bellingham, Wash., Jeff (Darla) Anderson, Mooreton, Jay Anderson, Burlington, and Jody (Pam) Anderson, Minot; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lloyd (Janice) Anderson, Minot, Laura Wilson, Velva, and Inez (DuWayne) Glein, Minot; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jean; and sisters, Olive Pothen, Verna Borud, and Lillian Schultz.

Funeral Service: Today, Sept. 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 27, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
