N.D. ideas in Washington

September 30, 2012

Ron Anderson, Keene

I have read and seen the claims that Rick Berg has changed since going to Washington. But in looking at his work, I think he's just been trying to make Washington look more like North Dakota.

That's why Rick has pushed for the federal government to live according to a balanced budget, just like he did in North Dakota in the state Legislature. Unfortunately, a balanced budget amendment has been opposed by both President Obama and Harry Reid, who is the Democrat Senate Majority Leader.

That's why Rick has supported a budget that will preserve Medicare for our seniors. Even President Obama's own advisers have acknowledged that without any changes, the Medicare program will have no money left in 12 years.

That's why Rick wants to reform our current tax system which is full of loopholes and lower the overall rate to encourage jobs. He knows that most families and small businesses can't afford the accountants and lawyers needed to navigate such a complicated tax code. He wants a fairer and simpler tax system for everyone.

Rick Berg has received the endorsement of seven North Dakota mayors. They know he's stood up to the harmful policies of Washington and stayed true to the local economic values and concerns of North Dakota voters.

Rick Berg wants to do everything he can to make Washington look and work more like North Dakota. That's why America needs Rick in the Senate.
