Minot Daily News

Ross Alan Blumhagen, 53, Fallon, Nev., formerly of the Newburg, area, was called to heaven to be with the Lord and his Dad on Sept. 21, 2012, at his home after a long, courageous battle with colon/rectal cancer. A celebration of Ross's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, 11 a.m., in St. John's Lutheran Church, Fallon. Lunch will be served following the service. The family requests memorials to further colon/rectal cancer research, as Ross always hoped a cure would be available so others would not have to endure this terrible disease.

Ross was born March 13, 1959, in Turtle Lake, to the late Reuben and Ardella (Volson) Blumhagen. He grew up in Newburg, and graduated from Newburg High School in 1977. Ross joined the Navy in September 1979 and married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Charlene "Cheri" Hand, on Dec. 21, 1979. They were stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, where Ross was aboard the USS Midway for three years. He was then transferred to the Crash/Rescue Dept. at Naval Air Station in Aganda, Guam, for two years. His final duty was at the Fallon Navy Station for 2 1/2 years.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Ross continued to work for a private contractor at the Fallon Naval Station. He worked there until his health would not permit it any longer. Ross really missed his job and working with his co-workers.

Ross was a kind, loving, and caring man who made not only his parents proud of him but always made it known that his family was the love of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, woodworking and hunting. One of his biggest loves was camping. Ross loved camping with his family and meeting his camping friends but mostly just camping with his family and his constant companions, Snoop and Duke. He always said that he felt so relaxed and loved watching his family laughing and having such a good time. Whether it was jet skiing with Monica or hunting with Chad, his family was his pride and joy but Cheri was the love of his life. She was his whole world and he was always proud to be with her, his loving and caring soul mate.

Ross followed his light from his lighthouse and on eagle's wings is watching herds of wild horses running free.

He will be loved and missed by: his loving wife of 32 years, Charlene; daughter, Monica; son, Chad, of Fallon, Nev.; his mother, Ardella, of Fallon; sisters, Rita, of Abilene, Texas, Ann (Tommy) Olsen, of Douglas, Lori (Gary) Pugh, of Wheatland, Wyo., brother, Curt (Nancy), of Bemidiji, Minn.; nieces, Dawn (Timothy) Brown, Marisa (Clinton) Rhodes, Heather (Jesse) Johnson, and Jenny Pugh; nephew, Nathan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Loving family awaiting to welcome Ross: his dad, Reuben; nephew, Wade; mother-in-law, Ruth Marsh; and father-in-law, Charles Hand.

Arrangements are with Smith Family Funeral Home, Fallon, Nev. (775) 423-2255
