Working for North Dakota

September 23, 2012
Minot Daily News

Joel Jameson, Noonan

Under former Gov. John Hoeven, now Senator Hoeven, North Dakota has moved forward these last twelve years. Our economy has grown and diversified, unemployment is at an all-time low, and we have significantly reduced the outward migration of our citizens and youth.

We all recognize that our federal government must pursue a long term policy to level the playing field and help our farmers and ranchers.

Our farmers and ranchers are among the best, most productive in the world. They don't need someone to tell them how to be better farmers or ranchers; they need help getting a fair price for the crops they produce. They need the freedom and flexibility to plant what they want and respond to the market.

Congress needs to support our ag producers, and I believe Rick Berg is the leader who can make that happen. As a senator he will remember his North Dakota heritage. Rick is a fourth generation North Dakotan, and learned firsthand what hard work is growing up on the family farm. He understands the value of hard work, and the importance of a dollar.

Rick can and will help our farmers and ranchers at the national level. I believe we must seek ways to reduce the burden of over-regulation on the farmers and ranchers of our great state. We must expand our investment in ag research and irrigation, to help farmer's better weather the storm.

As our next Senator, Rick will work hard for North Dakotans and the heritage that is our legacy.
