Former club president sentenced for embezzlement

A former treasurer of the Minot Swim Club has been sentenced after embezzling funds from the organization.

Melody Sundbakken had been accused of writing unauthorized checks to herself from the Minot Swim Club account from deposits and fundraisers, and eventually pled guilty to theft of property, a Class B felony. She was sentenced by Judge Gary Lee on Tuesday.

Sundbakken was ordered to pay $775 in court fines and fees, and $43,455.79 in restitution. She was sentenced to five years in Ward County Jail with four years suspended for 10 years. Sundbakken was granted immediate work release, with 50 percent of her income to go toward paying her fines, fees and restitution.
