March 26, 1952-Sept. 13, 2012

Minot Daily News

Steve W. Pusc, 60, Bismarck, N.D., completed his journey with cancer on Sept. 13, 2012, at Sanford Health. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place.

Steve was born March 26, 1952, to Russell and Marrian (Rakstad) Pusc, in Minot, N.D. His education started on the family farm and then continued in the Parshall School System, where he participated in all sports; he especially loved playing baseball. His education continued at Minot State University, where he obtained a degree in education while also enjoying life with his Greek brothers, the TKE's. Steve enjoyed teaching at Medina and St. Mary's grade schools, but soon felt the passion to continue his education. He chose to study geology and hydrogeology at the University of Idaho, where he completed his master's degree and set forth on his path of life-long learning. He worked for the North Dakota State Water Commission for 31 years. He also returned to his passion of teaching as an Adjunct Professor at Bismarck State College.

He married the love of his life, Collette Carlson, on Sept. 26, 1981, and from that union two beautiful girls were born, Stephanie and Ivy. He coached or officiated most of his daughters' sports teams, where he was always fair and considerate. Steve was known for his warmth and humor, and looked at life through his own positive lenses. He cherished the time with family and friends, new and old. Steve was a gentle soul who saw himself as a dreamer and a butterfly chaser, who could easily converse about mid-latitude cyclones or FFA milk judging.

Steve continued his love of athletics by participating in a variety of sports, especially running. He felt pride in finishing several marathons nationwide. He had a wide array of hobbies including photography, drawing, gardening, pistol shooting, rock hounding, and cooking. He also held a great appreciation for classic cinema.

Steve is survived by: his wife, Collette, Bismarck; his daughters, Stephanie (Ben) Pusc-Roland, Minot, Ivy Pusc, Grand Forks; two brothers, Mike (Lorna) Pusc, New Town, Dave (Doreene) Pusc, Bismarck; two sisters, Diane (Frank) Wollschlager, Minot, Donna (Jerry) Lyon, Minot; and ten nieces and nephews.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Russell and Marrian.
