Gary A. Smith, 67, Minot, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Gary was born on Nov. 18, 1944, a son of Joseph and Rose (Affeldt) Smith, in Sawyer. He was raised and educated in Sawyer, graduating in 1962. Following his graduation, Gary worked for the Pius Wald farm and Jack Bender Construction Co.

In June of 1967, Gary was united in marriage to Donna Mae Kelm. They made their home near Sawyer, where Gary raised cattle and operated Ace Concrete Construction Co. Donna Mae passed away on June 4, 2002. He continued to live in Minot.

Gary enjoyed the simple things in life. He always believed that working hard was important for himself and others. He loved baby calves coming into the world, helping a neighbor, and visiting with his friends. In retirement he dreamed all kinds of travels, and his latest joy, his Harley-Davidson Trike.

Gary is survived by: sisters, Ruth Jefferson, Granada Hills, Calif., Audrey Coombes, Lakeville, Minn., JoAnn (Hugh) Patterson, Norwich, Gloria (Garry) Heizelman, Minot; fiancee, Sandy Bostow, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae; parents, Joe and Rose; brothers, Wayne and Marlo; brother-in-law, Thomas Jefferson; and a nephew, George Coombs.

Funeral service: Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, Sept. 16, from noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
