Marla R. Hanson, 54, Bowbells, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, in a Kenmare hospital. Marla was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 8. She fought a courageous battle for over 44 years.
Marla Rae Moberg was born, a daughter of Alden and Goldie (Souther) Moberg, on Dec. 3, 1957, delivered by "Doc" Goodman in Powers Lake. She attended Battleview School through the third grade and graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1976. She worked one year as a teacher's aide before attending licensed practical nurse school in Williston. Marla then worked at the Tioga Hospital for two years.
On June 14, 1980, Marla was united in marriage to Frank Hanson in Battleview. They made their home on the Hanson farm for 17 years, where Marla thoroughly embraced being a farm wife. She learned to can vegetables, meats, loved to pick berries and make pies. She even learned to raise chickens and the art of butchering them. In 1998, Marla and Frank built a new home in Bowbells, where they had since lived.
Along with farm life, Marla worked at the Kenmare hospital for over 31 years. She attended Minot State University and the University of Mary, Bismarck, where she received her registered nurse license in 1991. She was very proud of this accomplishment.
Marla enjoyed making craft projects, scrapbooking, bead making and crocheted many afghans. Decorating for holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween, at home and work, was something she enjoyed every year. She adored her nieces and nephews, rocking them as babies and being involved with their lives. She was thrilled to be a great Aunt and proudly showed photographs of the children.
Over the years, Marla also enjoyed watching baseball and hunting deer with Frank. She also managed to "hunt them" with her vehicle, 17 to be exact. She was forever razzed about this fact.
Marla is survived by: Husband of 32 years, Frank, Bowbells; parents, Goldie Fjeld, Minot, and Alden (Janet) Moberg, McGregor; grandmother, Esther Peterson, Minot; siblings, Jeff (Wanda) Moberg, Tioga, Jon (Chris) Moberg, Tioga, Joel Moberg, Tioga, Marsha (Gerry) Knutson, Bowbells, Myrna Moberg, Minot; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Roger) Helwig, Powers Lake; 21 first cousins along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
