Minot State University senior goalkeeper Marie Torres was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference defensive player of the week after posting two shutouts in nonconference play.
Torres, a native of San Bruno, Calif., tallied seven saves Thursday in the Beavers' 1-0 win over Southwest Baptist University (Mo.) and added 12 more Saturday in a 0-0 tie with No. 7 University of Central Missouri. She has 28 saves on the season and a .933 save percentage.
"There is no doubt Marie has started the season on fire," head coach Jason Spain said in a press release. "After sitting out last year, she has really emerged as a leader for us. She has made it a priority to be the best every day, and I couldn't ask for a better mindset from our goalkeeper."
The Beavers (2-1-1) host the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
