Late goal pushes MSU past Southwest Baptist

Sophomore midfielder Zoe Fisher's goal in the 88th minute propelled Minot State University to a 1-0 victory over non-conference opponent Southwest Baptist (1-2) on Thursday at Herb Parker Stadium.

Fisher cut through the Bearcats' defense in the box and beat goalkeeper Megan Link with a left-footed shot. The goal was Fisher's fifth of the season.

Beavers' senior goalkeeper Marie Torres made seven saves (five in the first half) to earn the shutout.

Link finished with five saves.

The Beavers (2-1) host the University of Central Missouri at noon on Saturday.

Minot High School tennis beats Williston

WILLISTON - The Minot High School tennis team extended its perfect West Region record to 4-0 by beating Williston 6-1 on Thursday.

Senior Peter Wilson got his first action of the season after missing the first three dual matches with mononucleosis. He paired with fellow senior Lane Vendsel to collect one of three MHS doubles wins.

Jordin Gardner won his No. 3 singles match without dropping a game, while senior Hunter Oothoudt cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

Minot's only loss came at No. 2 singles, where Williston's Adam Kemp bested Minot junior Isaac Massey 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.

"I thought our depth showed its advantages today as all 10 players for us had chances," MHS coach Scott DeLorme said in a press release.

The Magicians return home to face Bismarck Century on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Barke wins Dickinson Invitational

DICKINSON - Williston High School senior Kayla Barke shot a six-over 82 on Thursday to win the Dickinson Invitational at Heart River Golf Course.

Bismarck Century won the six-team event by shooting a collective 354, 30 strokes fewer than second-place Dickinson. Minot shot a 410, good for third place in the tournament.

MHS senior Haili Duchscherer paced the Majettes with a ninth-place 95. Sophomore McKinley Bender finished in 14th with a 100.
