SHERWOOD Darold Erwin Thompson, 74, Sherwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Trinity Hospital, Minot, after a brief battle with cancer.
Darold was born June 12, 1938, near Sherwood, to Walter Sr. and Marjorie (Graff) Thompson. He attended Eden Valley School and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1955. He began working for K.R. Flem Implement Dealership in Sherwood in addition to attending one year at Minot Business College.
Darold and Margaret Wyman were married June 8, 1957, in Maxbass. Following their marriage, they lived in Sherwood, except for two years while Darold managed the K.R. Flem branch in Mohall. After they returned to Sherwood, Darold continued working part time with K.R. Flem as a bookkeeper and parts man until the mid-1970s.
Darold started farming west of Sherwood in 1963 and also had a dairy. He continued to farm with his sons until his death.
Darold was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Sherwood. He enjoyed watching his kids play sports, hunting and woodworking.
Family: wife of 55 years, Margaret Thompson, Sherwood; children, Michelle (Tim) McMechen, Lyleton, Man., Linda Mahlum, Bismarck, Michael (Terri) Thompson, Newburg, James (Sue) Thompson, Sherwood, Patrick Thompson, Bismarck, Kathy (Tim) Willis, Williamsburg, Va., Dean Thompson, Newburg, Kevin (Pamela) Thompson, Driscoll, Mary (Todd) Radenz, Jamestown, Shawn (Kerry) Thompson, Rice, Minn., Steven (Heather) Thompson, Sherwood, Scott (Angie) Thompson, Bison, S.D., and Mark (Beth) Thompson, Fairview, Mont.; 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Carol) Thompson, Carnduff, Sask., and Walter (Cynthia) Thompson Jr., Minot; sister, Beverly (Melvin) Knutson, Post Falls, Idaho; sister-in-law, Grace Thompson, Berthold; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Darold was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; and a brother, Dennis Thompson.
Funeral: Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood.
Rosary: Today, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m., at the church.
Visitation: Today, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall, and one hour prior to the Rosary service at the church.
