Ruth was born May 31, 1928, in rural Garrison, to Frank and Myrtle (Hill) Rivers. As a young woman, she moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she was a nanny for a family with young children. After several years she moved back to Garrison and began her long career as a cook. She started working at Elsie Krug's cafe and later went to work at the Dairy Queen, where she cooked until her retirement in the mid-1990s.
Ruth had a number of hobbies, but quilting was always her favorite. She especially enjoyed quilting with her church friends, only taking breaks if the "Price Is Right" was on television. Her church and faith were very important to Ruth, which allowed her fun and kind personality to be known to everyone. Ruth's life was a fine example of God's love.
Ruth is survived by: her siblings, Annabelle Panko, El Paso, Texas, Donald (Martha) Rivers, of Erving, Texas, James (Darlene) Rivers, Pocatello, Idaho, Lloyd Rivers, Garrison, Ervin (Annette) Rivers, Brentwood, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Richard Rivers; and her sister, Genevieve Rivers.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison.
