Vernon Stading, 75, Minot, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in Bloomington, Minn.

Vernon J. Stading was born July 8, 1937, in Antelope, the son of John F. and Freda (Frey) Stading. He was raised near Antelope and graduated with the Class of 1955 from Hebron High School.

Vern was joined in marriage to Arlene Elder on Nov. 8, 1956, in their hometown of Hebron, where they made their home. He began his work career at the Hebron Brickyard in 1955 as an equipment operator, where he enjoyed driving the hyster truck, working until October of 1963, when he moved his family to Minot.

Vernon worked for the Minot Police Department for the next 27 years as a senior patrolman until 1990. He spent the next two years working as a taxi driver and another seven years as a truck driver for Midnite Express until he retired in 2002.

He was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Minot and a member the North Dakota Peace Officers Association. His life interests included hunting, fishing and model airplanes and spending time with his family.

Vern was a devoted husband, loving father and a faithful grandfather and trusted brother who will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Vernon's loving family includes: his children, June Storey, Albuquerque, N.M., Jolene Puhalla, Bismarck, Cindy (Pastor Rick) Craig, Cando, Valerie Rich (Mike), Lakeville, Minn., Connie (Ted) Endicott, Columbus, Ohio, and Vernon Stading, Jr. (Samantha), Eagan, Minn.; grandchildren, Sean Storey, Erin (John) Tinney; Joe, Justin and Jordan Puhalla; Katie (Daniel) Wanner, Kyle and Kristen Craig, Lacee and Emily Stading; great-grandchildren, Lilly Puhalla, Leah Sime and Keifer Wanner; sister, Gertrude (Raymond) Koch, Billings, Mont.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene in 2009; sisters, Corenne Krieg and Ruth Butler; and brothers, Victor and Gerald Stading.

Celebration of Vernon's Life: Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, 11 a.m., at Vincent United Methodist Church, for Faith United Methodist Church.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
