The design of a new terminal at Minot International Airport continues to take shape.
Airport director Andrew Solsvig said the terminal design is about 35 percent complete and should be 65 percent complete by October. The goal is to deliver a completed project to the Minot City Council in January.
One design decision made this week was to include administraton and car rentals in the new terminal rather than continue to operate those offices out of the existing terminal.

The city council's airport committee visited with architects last Monday to discuss the progress being made. On Wednesday, the state's congressional delegation announced a federal grant that will give the project a boost.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $7.8 million to the Minot airport for the ongoing planning and construction of airport infrastructure projects, including the new terminal.
"It's definitely good news and we were excited to keep things moving forward," Solsvig said.
A portion of the money will go to continue rehabilitation on a portion of taxiway C. The project came in more than $1 million over the estimate so additional federal dollars were sought to cover that cost. Solsvig said the work should be completed within a couple of months.
A portion of the grant also will go to construct taxiway D, which will connect to a new apron that will enable planes to access the new terminal. The reminder will help pay for the terminal design.
The federal funds will pay 90 percent of the costs of the three projects. State funds also might be available for up to 5 percent of the cost, Solsvig said.
The city plans to seek additional federal funds for other aspects of the project. Once the taxiways are complete, the airport's next project will be to construct the apron at the proposed new terminal, Solsvig said.
Better cost estimates are expected once a terminal design is completed, but currently the city is looking at a $40 million facility. With other related airport updates, overall cost is about $75 million.
