Former Minot horseshoe pitcher in hall of fame

August 30, 2012
Minot Daily News

A two-time North Dakota Horseshoe Pitchers Association champion and former Minot resident will be inducted into the NDHPA Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Garnett Rudie, a Parshall native, won state titles in 1981 and 2005. He will be joined in this year's class by Joe Martin of Jamestown. The pair will be honored at a ceremony in Bismarck.

"It's the highest honor you can get in horseshoes," Rudie said. "I played over 40 years and I think the greatest accomplishment, I'd say, is winning my first championship."

The NDHPA's first hall of fame class was in 1977, according to the association's website, and the number of members will reach 64 this weekend.
