Donald Mortensen, 91, Fargo, formerly of Kenmare, passed peacefully away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Rosewood on Broadway, in Fargo.

Donald was born on the family farm at Kenmare to Andrew and Esther Mortensen on Aug. 12, 1921.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and spent three years in the European Theater and served in North Africa, Sicily, Scotland, France and England.

He and his wife, Doreen, of Leicester, England, were married on April 14, 1945. They made their home back in Kenmare after his discharge from the military.

They raised two daughters, Sheila (Darwin) Giem, Saskatchewan, Canada and Beverly (Kelly) Gleque, of Stanley.

Donald worked as a parts man for Sandvick Motor Co. in Kenmare, and then spent two years in Seattle working for the Boeing Co. They returned to Kenmare and he resumed his job at Sandvick Motors and from there he was employed at the Kenmare Post Office for 25 years. On his retirement in 1986, he became the maintenance man at the Baptist Home in Kenmare for several years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sheila and Beverly; seven grandchildren, Wendy Alexander, Estevan, Sask., Jeffrey Giem, Calgary, Alb., Marcy Huber and Mandy Giem, both Williston, Samantha Jones, Minot, Damon Gleave and Brandi Miller, both Fargo; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Alexander, Estevan, Taytum and Preston Jones, Minot, Payton Gleave, Harper Miller, Evan Miller, Erica Miller and Elli Miller, all of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gordon and James; sisters, Frances, Marian and Margaret; and his parents.

Donald's body has been donated to the University of North Dakota Medical School.
