Gordon Montgomery, 84, of Billings, Mont., formerly of Westhope, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at a Billings assisted living center. The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Westhope. Visitation will be today, Aug. 23, from noon to 8 p.m., at Nero Funeral Home in Westhope. Burial will be at the Westhope Cemetery.

Gordon L. Montgomery, a son of Samuel and Leila (McLeod) Montgomery, was born Jan. 9, 1928, at Fullerton. He was reared there and later graduated from Lamoure High School. He entered the Army on Oct. 3, 1946, and served in Japan until receiving his honorable discharge on Jan. 19, 1948.

He was united in marriage with Shirley Jensen on June 18, 1950, at First Presbyterian Church in Westhope. To this union four daughters were born, Wanda, Marla, Linda and Velda. They made their home in Lamoure, where he worked as an automobile and implement mechanic.

In 1963, they moved to Westhope and began farming. In the winter months he drove truck for Cardinal Drilling and did mechanic work at the Westhope Farmers Union. He retired from farming in 1981. In 1980, he began working at the Westhope School as a bus driver and custodian. He worked there until his retirement in 2004. On April 1, 2012, he moved into the Highgate Senior Living Center in Billings, Mont., where he enjoyed his family time and his many new friendships.

He was a member of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church in Fullerton, First Presbyterian Church in Lamoure and finally First Presbyterian Church in Westhope, where he served as a trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Westhope VFW. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, stained glass work and writing poetry. He also enjoyed being a clown in local parades and other community activities.

He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Shirley, of Billings; four daughters, Wanda (Darold) Berube, of Billings, Marla (Donald) Wegner, of Jamestown, Linda (Alan) Lee, of Billings, and Velda (Paul) Sivertson, of Casper, Wyo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Delmar Montgomery (Marian), of Lamoure; sisters, Margaret Schaeffer, of Salem, Ore., and Mildred (Rod) Olson, of Turner, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

He has been reunited in his heavenly home with his parents, brothers, many cousins, friends and others he loved in his life.
