Oswald Benjamin "Ozzie" Weber, 92, rural Sawyer, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, in a Velva nursing home.
Oswald was born Aug. 30, 1919, on the family farm near Sawyer, to Frank and Pauline (Selzer) Weber. He was reared on the family farm in Newman Township of Ward County which was homesteaded by his ancestors in 1900. Oswald was confirmed in 1935, attended rural schools in that area, and as a young adult he assisted his parents and siblings with the operation of the farm. Eventually, he and his brother, Gust, assumed control of the farm and they raised small grains and livestock. They were joined by their nephew, Steven Weber, in the operation of the family farm in 1986. Oswald retired from farming in 2001. He entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva in March 2011.
Oswald was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, rural Sawyer, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie and Farmers Union. He was an avid bowler.
Oswald is survived by: his sister-in-law, Ida Weber, of Mesa, Ariz.; nieces, Ardella Helstedt, Gloriann Skoglund, Hilda Gumke and Beverly Holland; nephews, Steven and Arno Weber, Jim, Dale and Gary Nyberg, and Jerome and Terrance Schultz, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Oswald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alma, Emma, Ellen, Aurelee and Olga; and brothers, Frank Jr., William, Ferdinand, John, Frederick, Erven and Gustav.
Celebration of Oswald's Life: Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Interment: Will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, Aug. 20, from 2 to 5 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.
