NEW TOWN Twenty-five people have filed as candidates for the Three Affiliated Tribes' upcoming election for three business council seats.
The preliminary list of candidates is as follows:
White Shield Segment Dewey Hosie, Bernard White, Frank M. Felix Sr., Martina Turner and Fred Fox. Frank White Calfe is the current White Shield representative.
Mandaree Segment Walter Deville Sr., incumbent Arnold Strahs, Lloyd Vigen, Blaine Flynn-Fox, Rosie Johnson, Diana Hale and Randy Phelan.
New Town/Little Shell Segment Susan Hall, Lewis Kenneth Hall, Jay Standish, Curtis Wells, Verdell Smith, George Fast Dog, Delvin Driver Jr., Titus Hall, incumbent Scott Eagle, Sharon Blake, Vance Gillette, Whitney M. Bell and Dakota Heart.
A qualified voter who wished to challenge the eligibility of any candidate had three days (by Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.) to file with the Election Board, according to the tribes' Election Ordinance.
Darren Joe Myrick is Election Board chairman.
The primary election will be held Sept. 18 and the general election will be Nov. 6.
According to information from V. Judy Brugh, tribal executive secretary and Four Bears representative to the council and the Mandan Hidatsa and Arikara Times, polling places for both the primary election and the general election will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT at the following locations: White Shield Segment Ralph Wells Memorial Complex; Mandaree Segment Water Chief Hall; New Town-Little Shell Northern Lights Building; Twin Buttes Segment Veterans Memorial Building; Parshall-Lucky Mound Parshall Veterans Hall; and Four Bears Segment John Bird Veterans Memorial Hall.
To be an eligible voter in the primary election, enrolled members must be 18 years or older on Sept. 18. To vote in the general election, enrolled members must be 18 years or older on Nov. 6.
