Agnes L. Schmid, 99, Velva, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Agnes Lorine Hansen was born Aug. 9, 1913, on the family farm near Deering. She was raised and educated in the Deering area.

Agnes was once married to Carl Swartwout Sr. To this union four children were born, Carl Jr., Melodee, Jimmie and Bruce.

Agnes worked for Woolworth's Department Store in Bismarck, Jamestown and Everett, Wash. While in Everett, she started an adult foster care center. She ran the foster care center until her retirement. Following retirement, she moved to Velva.

Agnes enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking and caring for her pet cats. She was a member of the Deering Lutheran Church and the Deering Senior Citizens. Agnes was also a lifetime member of the Velva American Legion Auxiliary.

Agnes is survived by: Children, Melodee Bryantt, Deering, Jimmie (Karen) Swartwout, Surrey, Bruce (Ellen) Swartwout, Baltic, S.D.; 18 grandchildren: 44 great-grandchildren: five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; son, Carl Jr.; son-in-law, James Bryantt; grandson, Michael; and her 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service: Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Deering Cemetery, Deering.

Visitation: Today, Aug. 16, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
