ANTLER Wilma Feland, 98, rural Antler, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at a Mohall nursing home.
Wilma was born July 17, 1914, near Warren, Minn., to William and Petra (Sorenson) Engelstad. Following the deaths of her parents, she was raised in Rosewood, Minn., by her aunt and uncle, Selmer and Evelyn Haugen. Following her schooling, she worked for a couple in Grand Forks. It was there that she met Ralph Feland, of Antler, who was working at a Grand Forks sugar beet processing plant.
Wilma married Ralph on Jan. 11, 1933, in Grand Forks. They moved back to Antler and resided for two years on the R.O. Feland farm. They moved to the present farm in Wheaton Township, Bottineau County, five miles west of Antler. Wilma and Ralph ranched and farmed for many years, raising sheep and cattle. Their son, Duane, joined in the operation of the family farm in 1953. Ralph and Wilma retired in the early 1960s and spent 35 winters in Harlingen, Texas.
Ralph died April 1, 2000. Wilma moved to the Brentmoor in Minot in 2002 and to the Good Samaritan Society in Mohall in 2010.
Wilma was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Antler, and the Bethel Willing Workers. In her younger years, she served as a Girl Scout leader, and was a member of the Club of Progress for 55 years. Wilma enjoyed working with her hands; she crocheted, knitted, and was a professional seamstress. She will be remembered as a woman with class, and a wonderful mother and mother-in-law.
