Chrystopher J. Edwards, 63, Butte, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, after his battle with cancer, at a hospital in Minot.
Chrystopher John Edwards was born Feb. 16, 1949, son of Raymond Pavey and Catherine Edwards, in Cogan, Penarth, Wales, United Kingdom. He was raised in Cogan and educated as a certified diesel mechanic for the British Railroad. In 1972, Chrys moved to America.
He married Nellie Kranz on Aug. 30, 1975, in Sunnyside, Wash. They made their home in Sunnyside where, being a jack of all trades, he ran several businesses. In 1996, he moved his wife and eight children to North Dakota, settling first in Esmond and finally in Butte, where they continued to raise their family.
Chrys was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva, and the Knights of Columbus of Drake/Anamoose.
Chrys enjoyed being with his eight children and 18 grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, especially camping. An important lesson he taught to all of his children was "Any job worth doing, is worth doing right." Chrys enjoyed a good cup of coffee and great conversation.
He is survived by: Wife of 36 years, Nellie, Butte; Children, Elizabeth "Buffy" (Ryan) Soens; of Bryans Road, Md., Teressa (Jeremy) Lakoduk; Butte, John (Rebecca) Edwards, Velva, Chrystopher (Bridget) Edwards; Minot, Andrew Edwards; Minot, Michael (Heather) Edwards; Minot, Katie (Derrick) Hysjulien; Powers Lake, Edward Ian Edwards; Minot; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Ernest "Roy" Edwards, Llandough, Penarth, Wales, U.K.;
Chrys was preceded in death by his daughter, Chrystine; and his mother, Catherine.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva.
Burial: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Velva.
Visitation: Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.
Vigil prayer service: Wednesday, 4 p.m., at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.
