Marilyn Ann Payne, 77, Minot, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, in a Minot nursing home.

Marilyn Ann Peterson was born April 10, 1935, on the family farm near Carpio, a daughter of Jacob and Laura (Ronningen) Peterson. She was raised and educated in the area, attending grade school at Hartland and high school at Carpio. She worked at Trinity Hospital in Minot as a nurse's aide for a year. She then attended the North Dakota State School of Science, in Wahpeton, to further her education as a practical nurse.

On July 8, 1956, she married Ruthford W. Payne at the Carpio Lutheran Church. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Frances Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., Linton Hospital in Linton, MedCenter One in Bismarck, Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn., Berkshire Nursing Home in Osseo, Minn., and the Strasburg Nursing Home in Strasburg. Her husband died in March 1983.

Marilyn was a volunteer at Strasburg Nursing Home, Ashley Hospice, Bismarck Hospice and the Linton Hospice programs. She was a member of the Strasburg Reformed Church, Carpio Lutheran Church and the women's ministries of those churches.

She is survived by: brothers, Lloyd (Joyce) Peterson, Carpio, Donald (Helen) Peterson, Carpio; sister, Lois (Glen) Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Betty Peterson, Minot; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Freeman, Harold, Marvin and Jack; sister, Gladys Lee; an adopted brother and his wife; and a nephew.

Funeral service: Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, at Trinity Homes Chapel.

Burial: Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Dale Cemetery, Linton.
