Minot Daily News

LAMOURE - The Velva American Legion team used a three-run third inning to fight off elimination in its second round 4-3 win against Class B defending champion Casselton on Thursday at the state tournament.

Jon Mack's two-run double brought home two runners in the frame. Mack also pitched a complete game for Velva (29-7).

Drew Effertz takes the mound for Velva today at 5 p.m. against LaMoure in another elimination game.

"He's going to do fine," Velva coach Travis Bruner said. "He's a lefty and he's going to hit his spots. Biggest thing is keeping them off-balance and letting our defense help us."
