Edwin "Bob" Winfred Walhaug, 91, Palermo, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home.
Bob was born April 20, 1921, in Palermo, to Torstien and Margit Walhaug. He was raised in the Palermo area, graduated from Palermo High School, and attended one year at the University of North Dakota. He was proud to have spent his life farming on the 100-year-old homestead of his parents.
He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Palermo, and held several offices throughout the years including deacon, secretary and council member. He held various offices in his 60 years of volunteer service to Farmers Union. He was a member of the Palermo School Board for 23 years, the Palermo Township Assessor for 30 years, and on the Palermo Township Board for 12 years.
Bob also enjoyed building and wookworking and wrote a series of articles entitled the "Good Ole Days," as well as editorials for the Mountrail County Promoter.
Surviving family members include: Children, Gary (Arlene) Walhaug, Minot; Warren (Colleen) Walhaug, Mandeville, La.; Cheryl (Jim) Evensvold, Palermo; Grandchildren, Laura (Chad) Thies, Scott Walhaug, Lisa (Brad) Hecker, Ashley (Heath) Garrison, Cristy (Jeremy) Jones, Faith (Ross) Anderson, Adam (Kendra) Evensvold; Great-grandchildren, Oliver Thies, Olivia Theis, Lillian Goedeken Walhaug, Ryland Anderson, Isaiah Jones.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Walhaug.
Funeral: Monday, at 2 p.m., in Faith Lutheran Church in Palermo.
Burial: Will be at Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Palermo.
Visitation: Monday, from 9 a.m. to noon, in Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
