Paul Mayer, 96, formerly of Gackle, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Paul Mayer was born May 16, 1916, on the family farm near Gackle, the son of John M. Mayer and Katherine Mayer.
He and Bertha Geinger were married Oct. 12, 1939, at Jamestown. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Gackle. Following the death of his wife in 1997, he continued to reside in Gackle until he entered the Heritage Center in April 2008 and the Ave Maria Village in November 2010.
He is survived by: his children, Ardina (Elmo) Bentz, Jamestown, Rueben Mayer, Bottineau; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Brosz, Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son; one grandson; six brothers and six sisters.
Funeral service: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle.
Interment: Gackle Cemetery in Gackle.
Visitation: Today, July 24, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.
Prayer service: Tonight at 7 p.m. at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown.
