Elroy Stotz, 85, of Anamoose, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Aloisius Medical Center of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey today, July 24, from 2 to 7 p.m. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens of Minot.
Elroy was born Nov. 4, 1926, near Anamoose. He was the son of John and Lydia (Fetzer) Stotz. Elroy grew up and attended rural school south of Anamoose. As a young man he worked for his father on the family farm. Elroy entered the Army on Feb. 18, 1946. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 17, 1947. Elroy returned to Anamoose and farmed on the family homestead.
He married Alice Heinle on June 20, 1948. Alice died on Feb. 16, 1974. Elroy then married Gladys Sommer on June 9, 1975. Gladys and Elroy moved to Anamoose in the fall of 1999. Gladys passed away Dec. 10, 2006.

Elroy was a faithful member of United Community Baptist Church of Anamoose. Elroy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Anamoose since 1948. Elroy served as director of the Anamoose Rural Fire Department for 21 years and served on the Anamoose rural school board for two years. Elroy enjoyed working and restoring old farm tractors. Elroy was an all-around handyman and was a perfectionist in everything he did.
Elroy is survived by: daughters, Doris (Lee) Johnson, of Rapid City, S.D., Sandy (Bob) Fortunato, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Linda (Lowell) Dusek, of Anamoose; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Elroy was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Alice and Gladys; sister, Violet Bender; and great-grandson, Shawn Maslack.
