Heidi Heitkamp is a nice person. However, North Dakota and the United States need more than that in the U.S. Senate. Heidi hasn't held public office in this century. Her last attempt at public office was a loss to John Hoeven in a bid for governor in 2000. Nor has she worked in a regular job since 2000. Her only work experience in this century and her only career exposure to the private sector is as a director attending quarterly board meetings of the Dakota Gasification Company.
Heidi stated during the 2008 campaign that "Barack Obama is going to be amazing" and thereafter enthusiastically supported the passage of Obamacare and other Obama programs that have and will greatly add to the country's debt. Obamacare is another nail in the coffin against personal freedom and an individual's right to choose and manage his or her own life without government control or interference.
Rep. Rick Berg, on the other hand, has continually served the citizens of N.D. with 25 years in the N.D. House of Representatives, including service as Speaker of the House and later as Majority Leader, before his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010.
Berg has an economics background with a degree in Agriculture Economics from NDSU and has been successful in the private sector creating jobs and opportunity. He has worked in the US House to preserve personal freedom, create private sector jobs, and cut the country's debt. That is what North Dakota and the country need at this difficult time in our history.
