BISMARCK - Three Minot High School golfers competed at Wednesday's Western Dakota Junior Tour event at Tom O'Leary Golf Course.

Tyler Kast led the trio with a 74 on the par-69 course. Kast was 10th in the 16 to 18-year-old age group before shooting his second lowest score of the summer. The rising senior previously shot a 72 on the same course.

Rising junior Taran Albright carded a 76 and rising senior Braxton Heupel an 80.

Westhope-Newburg's Hunter Braaten, a rising junior, scored a 73.

The tour may keep as many as 15 players for the championship rounds from July 30-31 in Bismarck and Mandan.

WDJT's last event before the championship begins at 10 a.m. Monday at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck. Players must appear in four events to qualify for the championship.

MSU signs DI softball transfer

Minot State University announced Wednesday that Alison Cygan will transfer from South Dakota State to join the Beavers.

Cygan, a 5-foot-5 infielder from Belgrade, Mont., didn't record a hit in three at-bats for the Jackrabbits last season.

She was a three-time, first-team all-state selection for Belgrade High School and compiled a .426 career batting average.

"We are very happy that Ali has decided to join our program," MSU coach Bill Triplett said in a press release. "Ali will make an immediate impact on our program. She's a great student, a hard worker and a great player and that's what we're looking for. She will fit right in."
