MINOT AIR FORCE BASE - Housing privatization at Minot Air Force Base has been postponed possibly for two or more months.
Privatization was to occur on Aug. 1, with Balfour-Beatty Communities taking over operation of the base's family housing. However, with the size and complexity of the contract, the Office of Management and Budget in Washington D.C., must review the financial details and approve the final contract documents, according to the Minot AFB Public Affairs Office.
The Management and Budget Office is still in the process of completing its review and approval.
Congress established the Military Housing Privatization Initiative in 1996. The initiative was part of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 1996 and signed by President Clinton.
Balfour-Beatty Communities, a firm from Newtown Square, Pa., was selected by the Air Force last year as the private contractor for the privatization of family housing under the Northern Group. The Northern Group includes Minot AFB and five other military installations.
