FORT TOTTEN (AP) - Three people have been sentenced in federal court in North Dakota for stealing from the Spirit Lake Nation.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Bruce Walking Eagle, Rochelle Walking Eagle and Lorna Walking Eagle each were sentenced to two years of probation and restitution. All three pleaded guilty in March to accepting tribal benefits to which they were not entitled.
Bruce Walking Eagle must repay $7,435, Lorna Walking Eagle $6,588 and Rochelle Walking Eagle $2,000. It was not clear how the three are related.
