Martia Denich, 55, Mayville, formerly of Minot, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in a Grand Forks hospital.
Martia Lea Saastad was born Jan. 24, 1957, a daughter of Norman and May (Huizenga) Saastad, in Minot. She was raised and educated in Sawyer.
Martia attended Josef's School of Hair Design, and received a certificate in 1990. She then worked for JC Penney Hair Salon as a master stylist. In 2004, she opened her own salon in the EK salon in Minot. She owned and operated her salon until retiring in February 2011. Following her retirement, Martia moved to Mayville.
She enjoyed shooting pool, shopping, and doing yardwork, especially working in her flower gardens, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Martia is survived by: Children, Dawn Saastad, Minot, Dustin Saastad, of Clifford, Erica Tessmann, Mayville, and Dessa Denich, Mayville; stepdaughter, Stacey Schmaltz, Rugby; six grandchildren, Dylan, Leo T., Dayna, Braeden, Keaton, and Landon; mother, May Saastad, Minot; brother, Daryl (Lynn) Saastad, Cincinnati, Ohio; niece, Melissa (Josh) Haag, Minot; along with several cousins and many friends.
Martia was preceded in death by her father and by her stepson, Jason Tessmann.
Funeral service: Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 2 p.m., at the VFW Picnic Shelter located on the grounds of the VFW Club Post 753, located at 1100-31st St. SE, Minot. Those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, friends may sign a guest book today, July 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
