Violet Carlson, 99, Kenmare, formerly of Bowbells, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Kenmare Community Hospital.
Violet Norma Linstrom was born June 18, 1913, on a farm west of Coteau. She was the daughter of France and Carrie (Hoglund) Linstrom. She was raised on the family farm and attended Coteau School.
Violet married Emil G. Carlson on Dec. 6, 1936, in Bowbells. They traveled to Tacoma, Wash., to find work. Several years later they returned to North Dakota and purchased land and started farming approximately six miles west of Coteau. Together, Violet and Emil had three children: Lois, and their twins, Bobbie and Bonnie. They farmed until 1978, when they built a house in Bowbells. Violet enjoyed her flowers, especially her rose garden. She loved to crochet, bake, garden and paint.
Emil passed away in 1981. Following her husband's death, Violet continued to reside in Bowbells. She moved into the Baptist Home of Kenmare in November 2006 and then was transferred to the Kenmare hospital, where she resided until her death.
Violet was a member of Coteau United Methodist Church and later Bowbells United Methodist Church and the ladies aid group.
Her loving family includes: daughter, Bonnie MacPetrie, Waterford, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Carol Holen, Minot; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Grace Melby, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; daughter, Lois K. Fender and her husband, Loren D. Fender; son, Bobbie L. Carlson; grandson, Jeff Fender; sisters, Doris Cox, Louella Linstrom and Gladys Linstrom; and brother, Bennie Linstrom;
Funeral: Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bowbells United Methodist Church.
Interment: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells.
Visitation: Today, July 12, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
Memorials: Are preferred to Bowbells United Methodist Church.
