Shirley Ann Scott, 74, Bismarck, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at St. Gabriel's Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Shirley was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Rolette, the third daughter of Lucien and Gladys (Greenwood) Grenier. She was raised on the farm and attended grade school in Russell Township. She later attended school at Notre Dame Catholic Academy in Willow City before finishing at Rolette Public School. Shirley married Terry J. Scott on Jan. 27, 1955, in Thorne. They made their home in Rolette until 1961 when they moved to Sherwood. They returned to Rolette in 1966 where they raised their six children. Shirley was employed at the Rolette Clinic as an X-ray tech. She also had worked at the Red Owl store, had her own painting and wallpaper business and later co-owned and operated the Hometowner Restaurant in Rolette. And even while being busy working, was a caregiver to her grandchildren. Her husband, Terry, died unexpectedly on his first day of retirement March 6, 2000. A few years later Shirley reunited with her high school sweetheart, Duane Traynor. They enjoyed many winters in Indio, Calif., at a golf course retirement community. And while Duane may not have enjoyed golfing as much as Shirley, there was a casino right down the road. When in Bismarck, they got together regularly with friends and family. As mentioned, Shirley loved golf and was a member of the Rolette Country Club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, all the grandchildren, her extended Traynor family which she truly loved and her many dear friends.
Shirley is survived by: her three daughters, Deborah Scott, West Fargo, Darci Scott, Billings, Mont., and Dawndi (Jody) Ulmer, West Fargo; her three sons, Bradley, Bismarck, Blaine (Sherri) and Brook (Paula), all Rolette; her 10 grandchildren, Mary (Danny) Erwin, Nick Schaffer, Brittany Schaffer, Brannon (Amanda) Scott, Trevor Scott, Kaylee Scott, Tayler Scott, Hunter Ulmer, Jason (Kara) Ulmer, Megan (Chad) Carlson; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Ronnie (Betty) Grenier, Rolette; and her sisters, Julie Potter, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Darlene Berube, West Fargo, and LaVon Aamodt, Rolette.
Shirley was preceded by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Terry; and her special friend and companion, Duane Traynor.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at Parkway Funeral Service Chapel, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m.
A prayer service with a sharing time will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Service.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rolette, the weekend of the 12th Annual Terry Scott Memorial Golf Tournament at the Rolette Country Club.
