Haugen undefeated in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - Minot High School rising senior Cody Haugen was 11-0 during a four-day tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World.

A group of 16 returning Magicians and one recent graduate finished seventh as a team in the AAU Scholastic Duals second division, which included 22 teams.

Haugen, a two-time state placewinner, and Minot State University signee David Rabe earned All-American honors at the tournament. Rabe finished 10-1.

"(Haugen's) been so close for the last two years in the state tournament," MHS assistant coach Justin Racine said. "It's starting to click that if he goes out there and wrestles for fun and wrestles loose he can beat anyone."

MHS dropped into the seventh-place match on Monday after losing to Oregon Clay (Ohio) on the number of wins in the dual after the match ended in a 35-35 tie.

The Magicians trailed by 11 points heading into the final two matches. Rising senior Demetreus Roby (220 pounds) scored a technical fall for five points and classmate Nick Nesdahl (heavyweight) pinned his opponent for six points to force the tie.

"Very pleased with the performance of our guys," Racine said. "They finally figured out we can compete with these big teams and hopefully it transfers to our high school season this year."

MHS beat Evansville (Ind.) Memorial 42-32 in the seventh-place match.

Ryan's Kramer in WSC's first softball class

WILLISTON - Bishop Ryan graduate Hannah Kramer is one of five all-state players joining Williston State College's first softball team.

Kramer, a second baseman, was a first-team all-state selection and one of two seniors on the Lions' state runner-up squad. She batted .500 with a .675 on-base percentage.

Kramer will study massage therapy and receive a partial athletic scholarship.

"I couldn't be any more grateful for who he's brought in," Kramer said. "We're all just super close already."

The former Lion said she's already connected with her future teammates through Facebook and video chatting on Skype.

Pitchers Shelby Sheriff of Millard, Utah, and Meggie Reitz of Billings (Mont.) Skyview, will also join the Tetons after all-state seasons as seniors. Sheriff had an 18-2 career record with over 140 strikeouts.

Other signees include catcher Haley Rowe of CM Russell (Mont.) and infielder Megan Chisholm of South Sevier (Utah). Both athletes earned second-team all-state honors.

"I am really excited to get this program started," WSC coach Eric Peterson said in a press release. "Teton Athletics was a great product to sell to all of our recruits, and I think fans will have a reason to be proud of their first-ever team."

"If it's the right fit after a year we definitely encourage our athletes to consider the opportunity. For Evan, it seemed like it couldn't be a better fit."
