ORLANDO, Fla. - After losing just one team dual through the first two days of the AAU Scholastic Duals, the Minot High School wrestling team lost twice on Sunday.
The group, which includes one recent graduate, dropped to 4-3 at the tournament in Disney World. The Magicians fell 34-22 in the final match in pool play to Oak Harbor (Ohio) and 52-30 to Cline's Clubbers (Ga.) in bracket play.
"We got put into the bracket with other teams that lost zero or one team dual," MHS assistant Justin Racine said. "It's a challenge, but we're battling."
MHS rising senior Cody Haugen is the lone unbeaten on the squad with a 9-0 mark. Minot State University signee David Rabe is 8-1. Rabe's only loss came by one point against a two-time Ohio state champion, according to Racine.
"When you get to a big national tournament it's hard to have that kind of success," Racine said. "It definitely is a plus and they're leaders for our teams and kind of push the rest of the kids."
MHS concludes the tournament today with a shot at third place in its division.
