Three children were rescued by a passerby from a house on fire in the 500 block of Valley Street on Thursday morning.

Minot Fire Chief C.J. Craven said the adult passerby reported the fire and helped the children get out of the house. No adults were apparently home at the time, he said. None of the children were injured, but the family dog wasn't so lucky.

"There was one dog that was deceased," said Craven. "We got him out, but not in time."

The three children were sitting several yards away with an adult, watching firefighters work to put out the fire, on Thursday morning. Craven did not know the children's ages.

Craven said the cause of the fire is under investigation. There was heavy fire damage to one bedroom in the house and smoke and heat damage to the upper and lower levels.

Craven said the adult residing in the home is Channa Kazban and he believes the children are Kazban's.
