More than flying pigs are filling the skies

June 23, 2012
Rev. Dan Andrus - Minot pastor , Minot Daily News

The question of the ages: "Why can't we all just get along?"

It's difficult enough to get us Baptists to work together, let alone someone who is not one of our kind. To expect several different denominations to come together is just not realistic. After all "they" do not adhere to our dogma and doctrines. How could we possibly think that we could come together and work alongside each other without any problems?

Well, let me give an example of amazing aviation display not the vacation Bible school theme but a real life aviation wonder taking place right here in Minot.

Last year at this time we were in the midst of a flood. With all the tragedy and loss that the water brought, God brought in the flying pigs! No, not the cousins of the flying monkeys from the Land of Oz but something even more unique and wonderful.

God brought his churches and his people together to provide ministry, recovery and rebuilding in a way that can only be compared to flying pigs. The walls and barriers that existed between God's people prior to the flood came crashing down as we are working together for a common cause Minot.

There were, and are, those gainsayers that have and will say, "Churches and people working together in one city for one cause; Yeah when pigs fly!"

Fact Box

Reflections, a mini-sermon written by Minot and area clergy, will appear each Saturday in The Minot Daily News. Clergy interested in writing a mini-sermon should contact Religion Editor Loretta Johnson at 857-1952 or Debbie Sandvold at 857-1950. The toll-free number is 1-800-735-3229.

Don't look now but there are all kinds of pigs in the air. With the exception of an ornery sow or a boring boar, this amazing aviation display company is filling the skies with pork.

Jesus said, in John 13:35, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

The Rev. Dan Andrus is pastor at North Hill Baptist Church in Minot.
