Joyce A. Dalen, 83, Minot, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, in a Minot hospital.
Joyce was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Grand Forks to Albert and Mary (Cardinal) Mero. She was raised and educated in East Grand Forks, Minn., where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1946.
As a young adult she began working at Trepaniers Drug Store in Grand Forks in the perfume department.
Joyce was joined in holy marriage to Donald Dalen on Sept. 29, 1953, at St. Leo's Church in Minot. They lived in Sawyer for 14 years until moving to Minot.
Joyce was employed at JC Penney for many years, working mostly in the women's clothing department. She retired in the early 1980s.
Throughout the years, she was active in square dancing with her husband. They were instrumental in setting up many square dance clubs at Minot Air Force Base and the communities of Parshall, Sawyer and Bottineau. Joyce was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie, and the Moose and Elks lodges, all of Minot. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, playing bingo and traveling throughout the United States and many countries abroad.
Joyce was devoted to her family and friends. Her big heart and giving soul will always be remembered and never forgotten by all who shared in her life.
Her loving family includes: nieces, Cheryle Wynne, Shirley Fralich, Roxine Egland, Rhonda Mero and Patricia Dahl; nephews, James Carlton, Larry Mero, John Mero, Steve Mero and William Mero; and very good friends, Robert and Lois Olson.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 28, 10:30 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Today, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Wednesday, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to St. Leo's Catholic Church or to Bishop Ryan High School, Minot.
