BISMARCK - Chandler Jacob continued his dominant start to the Junior American Legion season, tossing a two-hitter Monday in the Minot Metros' 4-1 win over Bismarck Reps Red.
Jacob struck out nine batters in the game and moved his season ERA to 0.38.
"When he's on the mound, he's in control and he gives us a chance to win the game," Metros coach Travis Smith said. "He throws his fastball very hard and he's got a slider and a curveball that work very effectively."
Jacob batted 2-for-4 and Austin Eggl went 2-for-3 to lead the Metros.
Bismarck Reps Red rebounded to take the second game 8-4.
Minot (6-5) scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the third, but was held scoreless the rest of the game. Bismarck scored in its final four trips to the plate to seal the win.
Brady Lampert, Zach Danelson and Grant Larson had two hits apiece for Minot.
"I thought we played really well tonight," Smith said. "The second game we were winning 4-1 and we just lost focus."
The Metros play at Grand Forks in a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
