Minot Daily News

MANDAN - The Minot Vistas got strong performances out of two pitchers in a split with Mandan on Sunday in American Legion baseball.

The Vistas (8-11 overall, 3-1 state) dropped the first game 2-1 despite Austin Berntson holding Mandan to just five hits. Minot's Ethan Stein hit a solo home run.

Minot's bats came around in game two, a 10-4 win, as Austin Maercklein pitched a complete game to win his second straight start.

"Austin Maercklein was really, really good for his second consecutive start and we were able to take advantage," Minot coach Todd Larson said. "Austin Berntson threw a gem in game one, we just didn't hit for him."

Caleb Fornshell and Kolton Larson finished with two RBIs each to lead the Vistas in the win.

Minot plays a doubleheader Friday in Jamestown before playing its first home game at Corbett Field on July 2.
