RAPID CITY - One day after getting blasted by Sioux Falls East, the Minot Vistas rebounded with a 9-0 American Legion win over Davy Jones (Colo.) Saturday at the Rich Hinseth Classic.
"They were depressed a little bit yesterday, but it was good that they had a 7:30 game today," Vistas coach Todd Larson said. "They didn't have to sit around and think about Friday's game too long."
Austin Maercklein pitched a complete game shutout, walking none and striking out four over seven innings of work.
"He was in complete control the whole game," Larson said. "Early on he established his fastball in the first three innings, then in innings four through seven his changeup really got good. He had the Colorado kids right out in front. It was a much needed performance to save the bullpen."
Austin Berntson and Casey Ryan led Minot (4-6) offensively. The duo combined for five hits and four extra-base hits in six at-bats while driving in four runs.
