Richard O. Frey Sr., 79, Minot, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, following a brief battle with cancer.
Richard Owen Frey was born Feb. 5, 1933, the son of Fred and Regina (Frey) Frey, on the family farm near Glenburn. He was raised on the family farm and educated at a country school in the area.
Richard married Margaret Pounds on May 5, 1956, at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed by John Deere as a warehouse man for 29 years. He later retired from Land O' Lakes/Cenex Seed in Minot.
Richard and Margaret enjoyed their many trips to Deadwood, S.D., to visit the casinos. They also had the opportunity to visit the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn.
Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was passionate about mowing and working in his yard. He kept it immaculate. During the winter months, he kept his driveway clear of snow and also enjoyed snow blowing his neighbors' driveways too.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Minot.
His loving family includes: wife of 56 years, Margaret, Minot; children, Brenda (Rick) Duffy, Fort Collins, Colo., Richard (Linda) Frey Jr., Minot, and Jodi (David) Meadows, Minot; grandchildren, Nichole Kelly, Eric Duffy, Cody (Erica) Meadows, Casey Meadows, and Jaime Bristol; great-grandchildren, Brogan Kelly, Makenna Kelly, Lily Meadows and Axton Meadows; brothers, Clifford (Ywaine) Frey, Minot, Fritz Frey, Glenburn, and Alfred (Betty) Frey, Minot; sisters, Violet Kubler, Minot, Helen (David) New, Surrey, Lillian (Gerry) Rubbelke, Des Lacs, and Linda (George) Walker, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Ernie and Raymond Frey.
Funeral: Monday, June 18, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Today, June 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to Faith United Methodist Church Miracle Sunday Fund, Minot.
