Money sought for old ND courthouse repairs

June 12, 2012
Minot Daily News

JAMESTOWN (AP) - North Dakota's State Historical Society is seeking state money for repairs to the old Stutsman County Courthouse.

The Jamestown Sun reports that the society on Tuesday planned to ask the state Emergency Commission for $60,000 to begin restoration of the interior of the courthouse built in 1883. Tests have shown there are least seven species of mold in the building, along with asbestos, lead paint and fire hazards such as old electrical wiring.

County officials are concerned about air quality in the new courthouse because it is connected to the old courthouse, which the historical society owns.
