With the fastest trap speed of 84.5 mph in an eighth of a mile, Minot's Kyle Berry won the first Pickup Truck Championship Race at Magic City International Dragway this weekend.

Berry hit the top speed in his 2008 Chevy Silverado with a 6.6-liter Duromax engine and twin turbochargers.

"I think I could have gone faster if I'd been better on the starting line," Berry told MCID.

Kyle Berry of Minot rests his 2008 Chevy Silverado after winning the inaugural Pickup Truck Championship Race this weekend at Magic City International Dragway.

Minot's Trevor Bauer beat Justin Hackman, also of Minot, in the elimination race. Bauer's 1996 Ranger finished the stretch in 10.476 seconds. His truck has a 390 cubic inch big-block Ford engine. Hackman's 2005 GMC Crew Cab committed a red-light false start by 0.017 seconds.

"We got a lot of reports from drivers who said they wanted to try this drag racing stuff again," MCID manager Dave Morgan said in a press release.

MCID will hold an IHRA-sanctioned points race next weekend. Cars, motorcycles and junior dragsters will compete.
