Measure 3, the Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment, simply restores the level of protection we in North Dakota enjoyed previous to a 1990 U.S. Supreme Court decision which lowered that level of protection. Measure 3 places the burden on the government to demonstrate a compelling interest, meaning they must have a good reason, not just any reason, to infringe upon an individual or religious organization's First Amendment religious freedom.
The federal government and 27 other states have restored this level of protection resulting in a well-tested means of preserving our right of religious exercise.
As pastors, we understand the importance of passing Measure 3, not just for our congregations but for all North Dakotans. Please vote yes on Measure 3.
